iPhone battery capacity (mAh) by model

Apple rarely prints mAh on its spec pages, so the numbers below come from regulatory filings and teardowns. They are nominal (rated) capacities of a new battery.

iPhone model Battery capacity (mAh)
iPhone SE (2nd generation) 1,821
iPhone SE (3rd generation) 2,018
iPhone X 2,716
iPhone XS 2,658
iPhone XS Max 3,174
iPhone XR 2,942
iPhone 11 3,110
iPhone 11 Pro 3,046
iPhone 11 Pro Max 3,969
iPhone 12 mini 2,227
iPhone 12 / iPhone 12 Pro 2,815
iPhone 12 Pro Max 3,687
iPhone 13 mini 2,406 to 2,438
iPhone 13 3,227 to 3,240
iPhone 13 Pro 3,095
iPhone 13 Pro Max 4,352
iPhone 14 3,279
iPhone 14 Plus 4,323 to 4,325
iPhone 14 Pro 3,200
iPhone 14 Pro Max 4,323
iPhone 15 3,349
iPhone 15 Plus 4,383
iPhone 15 Pro 3,274
iPhone 15 Pro Max 4,422 (some sources list 4,441)
iPhone 16 3,561
iPhone 16 Plus 4,674
iPhone 16 Pro 3,582
iPhone 16 Pro Max 4,685
iPhone 17 3,692
iPhone Air 3,149
iPhone 17 Pro 4,252
iPhone 17 Pro Max 5,088

iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max figures are for the eSIM-only versions. Versions with a physical SIM tray have smaller batteries: about 3,036 mAh (Air), 3,988 mAh (17 Pro) and 4,823 mAh (17 Pro Max).

Why different websites show slightly different mAh numbers

A few models, such as iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max, appear with values that differ by a few mAh. This happens because capacity is quoted in different ways: rated capacity versus typical capacity, and regulatory documents versus teardown measurements. The gap is tiny (under 1%) and does not change which phone has the bigger battery.

mAh vs Wh: what actually decides battery life?

mAh measures stored charge at the cell's nominal voltage. Watt-hours (Wh) is the better unit for comparing phones because it also includes voltage: Wh = mAh × nominal voltage ÷ 1,000. Even then, a bigger number does not guarantee longer use. Chip efficiency, screen type, brightness, network signal and iOS version all matter. For example, the iPhone Air has a smaller battery than the iPhone 17, and Apple's thin design is the reason, not a weaker cell.

How to check your iPhone battery health

  1. Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
  2. Read Maximum Capacity. It is shown as a percentage, not in mAh.
  3. Multiply the percentage by the original capacity in the table to estimate your current mAh. Example: an iPhone 13 Pro Max at 85% has roughly 4,352 × 0.85 ≈ 3,699 mAh.
  4. On iPhone 15 and newer, the same screen also shows the cycle count.

Apps such as coconutBattery, 3uTools and iMazing can read design capacity and current capacity in mAh when the phone is connected to a computer.

Apple designs iPhone batteries to keep up to 80% of their original capacity after 500 complete charge cycles, and iPhone 15 and later models after 1,000 cycles.

When should you replace an iPhone battery?

  • Maximum Capacity has dropped below 80%.
  • The phone shuts down suddenly, even with charge showing.
  • Battery drains very quickly or the phone gets unusually hot.
  • The back or screen is lifting. This can mean a swollen battery. Stop charging and stop using the phone until it is serviced.

The price of a replacement in Pakistan depends on the model, whether the cell is original or compatible, and the shop. Before you pay, ask which cell is being fitted, what warranty comes with it and whether Battery Health will display normally afterwards.

For technicians: battery health messages after replacement

On iPhone XS and newer, iOS pairs the battery data with the phone. If a replacement battery cannot be verified, iOS can show an Important Battery Message or an unknown-part notice, and the Battery Health screen may not show a capacity percentage. A tag-on battery flex or a battery programmer is designed to read, write and correct this data so the warning pop-up is cleared.

Frequently asked questions

How many mAh is the iPhone 11 battery?

The iPhone 11 has a 3,110 mAh battery. The iPhone 11 Pro has 3,046 mAh and the iPhone 11 Pro Max has 3,969 mAh.

How many mAh is the iPhone 13 battery?

The iPhone 13 battery is rated at about 3,227 to 3,240 mAh. The iPhone 13 Pro has 3,095 mAh, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has 4,352 mAh and the iPhone 13 mini has about 2,406 to 2,438 mAh.

Which iPhone has the biggest battery?

The iPhone 17 Pro Max has the largest battery of any iPhone at 5,088 mAh (eSIM-only version), and it is the first iPhone to pass 5,000 mAh.

Does a higher mAh mean longer battery life?

Not always. Battery life depends on capacity and on how efficiently the chip, display and software use that energy. Compare models by Wh and by real-world tests, not by mAh alone.

Can I see my iPhone battery mAh in Settings?

No. iOS shows Maximum Capacity as a percentage under Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. Use the table above and the percentage to estimate your current mAh, or read it with a computer tool such as coconutBattery or 3uTools.

When should I replace my iPhone battery?

Replace it when Maximum Capacity falls below 80%, when the phone shuts down unexpectedly, or when you notice swelling. Swelling needs immediate service.

Why does my iPhone show an unknown part or Important Battery Message after a battery replacement?

The new battery's data does not match the phone's records, so iOS cannot verify it. A technician can fix this by transferring or correcting the battery data with a tag-on flex or a battery programmer.
